GymBuddy

UK fitness directory. Every listing's credentials verified against 14 regulatory bodies.

01 / What was breaking

UK fitness professionals have no single directory where credentials are verified against live public registers. Existing platforms accept self-reported qualifications — there is no way for a consumer to distinguish a certified PT from someone who completed a weekend course.

02 / What we built

We built a Next.js directory covering nine fitness categories (personal training, yoga, pilates, crossfit, massage, sauna, spa, nutrition, physiotherapy) across twenty-four UK cities. Each listing links to the relevant regulatory body — REPs, CIMSPA, CNHC, and eleven others — so credential claims are checkable, not decorative. The interface uses a Bento Motion design system with category-specific neon accents and a dark/light toggle.

03 / What changed
  • 24 programmatic SEO routes (city × niche combinations)
  • 123 seed listings with verifiable credential links
  • Dark/light theme toggle with zero-flash persistence
04 / Retrospective

The verification layer is the product. Without it, this is another directory. The decision to link directly to regulatory body registers rather than display self-reported badges was the hardest call — it limits the supply side but makes the trust proposition real.
